Yangshuo is a good spot to stumble across some souvenir purchases: scroll paintings, silk clothing and batiks are every popular purchases. Most of the shops congregate around Xi Jie, but also check out the backstreet areas to get better bargains. You might also find some interesting local arts and crafts in the surrounding villages on market days. The markets will generally take place every three days or so. Ask at your hotel or a local café for reliable information on when and where the markets take place.
